 2017-2014 EVENTS

Winter Breakfast - Saturday 25th November 2017

Having enjoyed the meal on Friday evening, we really mastered our organisational skills ... and the following morning almost 30 met up for the First Winter breakfast of this 2017/18 winter! Pensthorpe proved a superb venue for the breakfast which is a replacement for our Farmers Market attendances and displays. They are indeed great - but during winter ... well, we are only human! This breakfast was really well supported, and combined with the previous evening meant that close on 70 of us got together.

Charity Fund Raising Evening - Friday 24th November

The Club held this annual Event by kind arrangement with Q's of Fakenham. An excellent turnout of almost 40 enjoyed the Quiz night together with a good meal and all in a very convivial atmosphere. All in all a most enjoyable evening, and with a big boost to our Fund raising. Our thanks to Tracey at Q's, to all her colleagues and to the staff.

Regrettably, due to a few problems it has not been possible to publish reports of our busy schedule through August, September and October. However, the many Events arranged were well attended and overall it was another very enjoyable summer schedule.

McAully Flying Group - Sunday 16th July 2017

Still on an aeronautical theme, we were delighted to be asked to join the 60th Anniversary of the McAully Flying Group - based at Little Snoring Airfield. We congratulate the group on their aircraft, and also their arrangements for such an excellent day of celebration. A good number of our members took their cars to see the lovely aircraft, and some enjoyed a flight over the surrounding countryside before indulging in BBQ and drinks.

Flixton Air museum - Sunday 11th June 2017

21 of us in 10 cars took this trip - we all met at the Buck Inn, adjacent to the museum, for a superb carvery lunch. We then parked up outside the main hangar and set off to see the huge range of exhibits indoors and out. There are around 65 aircraft on display, as well as numerous other exhibits including WWII wreckage, RAF bomber command, coastal command and air sea rescue,  underground control bunker, airborne weapons, flight training area, Ken Wallis Wing etc.  We also enjoyed refreshments in the NAAFI whilst listening to 1940's musical recordings - what nostalgia!

Pat Pearce run / Drive-it-day 23rd April 2017

Another superb Event. Raising funds for the Fakenham Junior School Bell appeal, we had 25 cars on a great route. With 50 of us booked in for lunch at the Banningham Crown before coffee and cakes at Pensthorpe (get the drift ?), and some terrific weather it truly was a great day out. Thanks to Ray Davies for sending some great photos.

Fakenham Farmers Market - 25th March 2017

Our first Farmers Market display of the year, and the weather was superb. Loads of member cars were present, and in particular Laurie's Citroen attracted much attention - and rightly so. Cake and coffee outside the Bistro in the sunshine plus some great cars ... oh yes, a good Saturday!

Reed Cutting & Management - Club Night 22nd March 2017

Club night in March was a scintillating (ok - inhouse joke !) talk, powerpoint show and hands-on session. Committee member Mark Randell put on a terrific show covering his life time experience of this topic from Reed bed management to harvesting and thatching - all of which is such a strong part of local heritage. A very interesting & memorable learning opportunity which was enjoyed by all present.

Drive to White Horse, Holme next Sea for lunch - Sunday 19th March 2017

A superb turnout of 18 cars and 37 of us was complimented by some lovely spring weather. This was a great outing, and it was ideal for shaking off any winter cobwebs from the cars during the 20 mile drive. Everything was pre-booked at the White Horse where the food, service and convivial atmosphere was thoroughly enjoyed as Club members put the world to rights!

Norwich Aviation Museum - Club Night 27th July 2016

A Club night with a difference, and a visit that was really interesting with lots to see and learn. Guided tours inside the Vulcan and the Nimrod possibly were the highlights, and as the photos show - the Vulcan Cockpit in particular was better suited to those of a "smaller frame" .... but even then it would have been somewhat cosy for flights of 10 hours or more.

3 Halls Classic Car Run - 24th July 2016

This run was organised by Tapping House, with all proceeds to that worthy organisation. The first such event, set in quite superb settings and with a turnout in excess of 100 exceptional cars. The weather wasn't at all bad either! Photos are at Raynham Hall, having started at Houghton Hall and with the finish at Holkham Hall. No prizes then for correctly guessing why it was called the 3 Halls.

Fakenham Farmers Market - Saturday 23rd July 2016

Well, what a great English summer morning ! Great weather, great company and great cars. A big welcome to new member Steve Bloom.......displaying his rather special car, the recently acquired Panther Kallista - which was resplendent in the summer sunshine. Note: believe it or not the photo is not set in the Fakenham Market Place!

Pat Pearce Memorial Run - 24th April 2016

The annual Memorial Run as ever attracted a good turnout of cars, and as ever it was an excellent event. This year it was a southerly coastal drive with the usual good hostelry at lunch time.

Farmers Market - Saturday 23rd April 2016

Following the March unveiling of "the mini", it was back to more mundane matters in April. Still some great cars, and as the photos show a nice church in the back drop - watch it, now you see it but soon you won't!

Farmers Market - Saturday 26th March 2016

Well, the first Farmers Market of the year that we attend is usually a bit special, but this year especially so. Pride of place and a big welcome to our youngest ever member, Oliver Francis, proudly displaying his totally rebuilt mini with just 10 (yes, ten) miles on the clock since completion. A terrific restoration completed over 2 years by (grandad) Bob Francis with help from (dad) Jamie, and of course Oliver himself. Also present was a lovely collection of members cars ... and the cool wind was kept at bay by the inevitable (and essential) coffee and cakes which were pretty good too.

Winter Walk 21st February 2016

Winter weather is not always (is it ever?) conducive to using older cars, but at least their owners can wrap up warm and enjoy a walk, chat and lunch together. This year we were at Kelling - starting and finishing at The Pheasant.

Club Night 27th January 2016

First Club night of 2016 was at the Gallows and a chance for general chit-chat with drinks. Highlight was the presentation of the 2015 Charity cheque to Fakenham Area Age Concern Mini Bus, with the £672.65 cheque being presented by FAC Chairman David Coles to Bob Francis.

Farmers Market - Saturday 26th September 2015

A Farmers Market with a French theme. A lovely late summer / early autumn morning saw prominence given to a display of cars to mark the Town's French theme day. A good turnout, coffee in the sunshine ... just how life should be!

Club Night Wednesday 23rd September 2015

A good turnout and a great opportunity to welcome new members. Short drive from Fakenham to North Elmham, where a convivial (sounds good?) atmosphere with good food was enjoyed at the King's Head on a lovely late summer evening.

Saturday 16th August 2015

Hunstanton Kite & Classic Car show. A lovely warm and sunny day at Hunstanton. Several hundred visitors to the Event, with some terrific Kite displays - many of which were multi kites flying 'in synch' to music ... wow! An extremely low level flyover (x3) by a WW2 Spitfire was something very special. Oh yes, I almost forgot there were loads of classic cars on display  including many from FAC. What more could you want on a summer's day in the UK - they're meant to be like this!

Club Night Wednesday 22nd July 2015

A good turnout of cars from the Club, with a dedicated visit to the Lifeboat Station at Wells. The talk from Allan Frary was excellent and provided great insight. Food arrangements at individual choice, with drinks at Sculthorpe Mill to close offanother successful Club night out.

Sunday 12th July 2015

The annual Charles Clarke Rally. Once again this was a superbly successful day, and full info is on the Charles Clark Rally website. Several FAC cars were present, and an excellent route was provided culminating at Thursford. No photos of this one, but plenty on the CCR website.

Wednesday 24th June 2015

The annual fish'n'chip evening. This event proved once again to be highly successful with a superb turnout of cars. A great drive, Blakeney parking, food and beer ... all on a terrific summers evening = magic!

Sunday 7th June 2015

Mark arranged for us to visit Tri-King near Norwich - which is now home to Bob Maple's long admired model, and from where Mark's own version originated (all he had to do was build it!). Another successful visit together with a great lunch.

Sunday 26th April 2015

The Pat Pearce / St. George's Day Event. Fifteen cars took part in this popular annual event. This year the route took us along some lovely scenic roads to Thornham on the Norfolk coast. We had a lunch stop at La Campagna (formerly known as 'The Yurt') before continuing along picturesque country roads to Pensthorpe where we ate and drank even more ... before going our separate ways home. A really good day, good roads, good food and good weather - plus a good return for our 2015 charity.

Club Night 22nd April 2015

April and the Club year moves into "Action not Words"! Visit to the WW2 Air Field Control Tower at North Creake on a lovely Spring evening. No photos of this evening guided tour, but what  an interesting session it was. The Control Tower still pretty much as it was, albeit  one or  two mods to accommodate modern day living. The detailed information of the important role played during the latter years of WW2 was described, and the site plan together  with remaining structures identified the colossal amounts of concrete used at the time. Amazing to think that we all drive past within yards of these buildings and  no idea of what history remains. The irony of the setting sun from the roof top ... against the harsh reality of others having viewed from that same spot. Very worthy of a repeat visit.

Farmers Market - Saturday 25th October 2014

This was the final 2014 Farmers Market that we attended in anticipation of poor weather coming soon. In November we instead met for an indoor(!) breakfast. Fakenham saw some glorious autumnal sunshine ... and another excellent turnout of lovely cars (nice Citroen Laurie) set against the church in the background.

Club Night - Wednesday 23rd July 2014

The July Club Night was a get together at the Red Lion, Stiffkey. 23 members were present, and it was good to welcome new faces - Mick & Gill, Cliffe & Marjorie, who we hope will enjoy future Club events. An evening of good food, good company and super weather - that's what summer is all about!

Sunday 13th July - Charles Clarke Rally 2014

Another highly successful rally in memory of Charles Clarke. This year the supported charity was Cystic Fibrosis, with a significant sum being raised. Starting with bacon butties at Skeyton Goat, a lovely drive through country roads culminated with live Jazz at Felbfrigg Hall near Cromer. Even heavy (at times torrential) rain en-route failed to dampen the spirits of the 75 participants andthe many FAC members who helped to make this such an enjoyable and beneficial day.

Sunday 27th April - Pat Pearce Memorial Charity Run 2014

The first major Event of our season, and it was a resounding success. 19 Cars congregated at Fakenham Market Place for the scenic drive along the coast road for a lunch stop at The Yurt, Thornham. After lunch it was another lovely drive through the Norfolk countryside to Oxborough Hall. Superb weather, superb route, great food ... oh, and the cars weren't too bad either!
