 2019 EVENTS

Friday 13th December 2019

It's Christmas (well almost!). Thirty-three members came together for the Christmas dinner which, as for last year, was held at the Hunworth Bell. The food was good and the staff were very helpful. Everyone had a great time and many raffle prizes were won. Thanks to Lyn and Dennis for organising the event.

Friday 15th November 2019

The quiz night was a big  success. Forty-two people attended. Monies raised from Quiz night were £294 entry fees plus £120 raffle = total £414 for Tapping House. The quiz went very well with quite a few guests as well as members..Dennis & Lyn Weatherill’s  team won with Ray Davies and Rob Percival’s coming second. Q's managed  the whole thing faultlessly, as usual.

Wednesday 23rd October 2019

The October club night  featured a very informative and enjoyable talk and slide show display by Mark Thompson and Yvonne Fuller on their Chengdu to Kathmandu Rally across the Himalayan plateau.  Mark described some of the intricate and detailed  preparations on the car. Wonderful pictures illustrated the beautiful but desolate landscape and Yvonne mentioned the extremes of temperatures they endured from minus 8c to plus 50c. Lots of questions were taken from the audience of about 40.  Many thanks to Dennis and Lyn for organising.

Sunday 20th October, 2019

The Club’s annual Ten Pin Bowling event took place at the Fakenham Superbowl and was  attended  by ten members. The competition was great fun and Malcolm Thompson finally emerged as  the victor to take the title FAC Ten Pin Bowler of the Year as a rather handsome box of chocolates. Many thanks to David Coles for arranging the event.

Sunday 8th September

The Caister Castle and car museum event started with an generous invite by David Coles and family to their new house for tea and scones. A small group of FAC members visited the Caister car museum which has over 120 excellent examples of anything on wheels. The castle with 90 steps together with a lovely woodland garden walk, provided an excellent opportunity for exercise  Thanks to David for organising.

Sunday 1st September

This event attracted nearly 40 of our members to bring their cars to a fund raising event for our charity, Tapping house, at Sandringham. Other car clubs, live music, many stalls all added up to a successful day. The weather threatened a bit in the morning but turned out fine later. One of our members, Stuart Twite, won second place in the “best restoration” class with his XR2..Finally Norfolk Hospice Tapping house made £8,700. Congratulations to them as well.

Sunday 18th August 2019

The Hunstanton Kite & Classic Car  Festival was a great event with seven FAC cars in attendance. There was a triple fly past by a Spitfire which was only eclipsed by FAC member David Barnsdall winning the "Best in Class" award for his beautiful red Austin Healey. With some 130 cars on display this was a great honour. Congratulations David!

Club Night, 24th July 2019

Starting at Fakenham's Morrisons, Brian provided a wonderful route, along roads which were unfamiliar for many of us, to Briarfields for an enjoyable meal. It was a hot and balmy evening and just about the perfect car run.

Sunday 21st July

Jack organised this visit to Overstrand's Village Fair,  and he even laid on superb weather!  It was a fun day with lots of cars, many from the Norwich Classic Car Club.

The Charles Clark Rally, Sunday 14th July 2019

An excellent turnout of 93 cars arrived at the starting point, the Skeyton Goat on a somewhat windy and cool morning for bacon rolls and coffee. Dorothy and Dennis, Charles Clark’s parents, waved us off in style with the Union flag. Our destination was Creake Abbey where some brought picnics but an afternoon tea and music was also laid on. Thanks to Brian Monks and Colin Hendry for organising. Brian presented a cheque for £1840 to this year’s CCR supported charity, Home-Start Norfolk.

Drive-it-Day 28th April 2019

We met at Fakenham Market Place.  The weather was damp but not the spirits of the 70 people booked in for today's drive which proceeded along Brian's well planned route to The Bedingfeld Arms at Oxbrough for lunch. The food was good although the staff had their work cut out matching people to the pre-ordered meals.  After lunch most people headed off to Pensthorpe Natural Park for coffee to round off the day.

Wednesday 24th April 2019

Dennis organised a visit to RAF Coningsby, the home of the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight. We were treated to a fascinating tour of the hangar by our guide, James Wiggins, who gave us a history of the planes as well as some interesting and amusing anecdotes. We then headed back to The Black Horse at Castle Rising for an evening meal which rounded off a great day.

Wednesday 27th February 2019

Club night followed the AGM, which in turn followed a presentation by Tapping House as our charity of 2019.  The 2019 Organising Committee was elected at the AGM, and we welcome Ray Davies in joining the Committee Members of 2018 - all of whom were elected to continue.

Sunday 23rd February 2019

Our second winter breakfast was organised by Lyn & Dennis at Thaxters of Dersingham. Close on 30 members were there and over the meal did their best to resolve any issues on planet Earth.

Sunday 17th February 2019

Our winter walk this year was organised and led by Nigel, and a good number of members turned out to be a really good exploration of what was for many a new area. A lovely lunch followed at the Three Horseshoes at Warham to round off a good day out.

Sunday 26th January 2019

The first winter breakfast of 2019 was held at Creake Abbey, and 38 hungry members enjoyed a lovely meal - although possibly the highlight most remembered will be the slightly chilly temperature in the Barn that had been opened - and despite valiant heating attempts since 6.00am ... it was a tad cold! Nevertheless, and undeterred it was a good social event.

Wednesday 23rd January 2019

Our January Club night was held at The Gallow in Fakenham. We were proud to welcome our 2018 charity, The Fakenham Fitzroy Centre, to the evening, and were pleased to present our cheque for £886.00 to Karensa and Gary who outlined the splendid work they do. Evening continued with one of Brian's excellent quizzes - after which we confronted the January weather for the drive home.
